The government's much awaited ‘road map' to ease COVID restrictions provide a clear direction for us here in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. We know what we need to do and we are doing it.

There are promising signs of a reduction in COVID cases, hospitalisations, and deaths across our county. With the resolve of the public and our public services, there is now a light at the end of the tunnel. I share the Prime Minister’s view that the easing of restrictions must be irreversible and the Combined Authority will do its utmost in achieving this. We continue to support the robust vaccination programme, as well as providing clear and strong public health messaging via our public health partners and constituent councils.

Further to this, the Combined Authority continues to provide vital support and a voice for local businesses. Whilst we have already supported businesses with COVID Capital and Micro Grants, our tailored support packages available via our Business Growth Hub ensure that businesses are best placed to succeed in the coming months and years. We encourage businesses large and small to make the most of this outstanding service.

We will continue to champion our public transport systems and maintain that they are safe for essential workers. Additionally, we will always engage with the public and consult with government so that our fair share of support is in place. It is fundamental that Cambridgeshire and Peterborough can look forward to a strong and coordinated recovery. Rest assured, the Combined Authority will continue our hard work and do all we can to move us all of us across the planned stages, providing citizens with the help and certainty they deserve.
