Mayor encourages residents to take part in Local Nature Recovery Strategy public consultation launching today

The Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) public consultation launches today (Friday 18th July), marking a major opportunity for residents to influence how nature is restored and protected across the region.

The public survey invites everyone to have their say on key environmental priorities and propose ideas that will guide long-term nature recovery efforts.

The consultation runs from today until Thursday 11th September and is accessible online, with additional ‘drop in’ sessions scheduled throughout the region to make participation easier and more inclusive.

How to share your views:

  • Prefer a paper copy?
  • Return printed surveys to: The Biodiversity Team,
New Shire Hall, Emery Crescent, Enterprise Campus, Alconbury Weald, PE28 4YE
  • Visit your local library: View the draft strategy and share your feedback in person (available from 22 July 2025)

The LNRS is part of a new framework introduced under the Environment Act 2021, designed to identify and coordinate the actions needed to restore nature at a local level. Developed in partnership with land managers, farmers, and community stakeholders, the strategy will be instrumental in achieving the nature recovery goals across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

By gathering public input, the team aims to better understand which natural spaces and priorities matter most to residents and ensure these insights are reflected in the final strategy.

Paul Bristow, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, said:

“I urge all residents to have their say. Our local countryside is glorious, but surprisingly little is actually managed as space for wildlife and biodiversity. This is an opportunity to increase our natural habitats in a natural way.”

Pamela Abbott, Director of Natural Cambridgeshire, Co-Chair LNRS Steering Group

“We have such a fabulous diversity of wildlife habitats in our area, from our internationally rare chalk streams, our beautiful bluebell and oxlip woods, our amazing fen landscapes and our parks and green spaces filled with wildflowers attracting bees and butterflies.  We would love to hear your views on the nature recovery strategy so that together we can achieve our shared vision for doubling nature in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.”
