Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority Shortlisted for Regional Transport Authority of the Year at National Transport Awards
The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority has been shortlisted for the ‘John Prescott Regional Transport Authority of the Year’ at the National Transport Awards 2025.
The National Transport Awards celebrates outstanding projects, people and innovation across the transport sector in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
This award recognises regional transport authorities that are delivering measurable improvements across a broad range of sustainable transport policy areas. The Combined Authority’s submission highlights a year of bold decision-making and meaningful progress to support an inclusive and equitable transport network across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Among the most significant achievements included in the submission is the decision to pursue bus franchising, placing the region at the forefront of public transport reform. Informed by public consultation, this landmark move is set to reshape local bus services, making them more integrated, affordable and accountable.
The Combined Authority’s inclusive approach is further demonstrated by the launch of the Tiger Bus Pass. Introduced in May 2024, the pass offers £1 fares for under-25s and has already supported over one million journeys, opening up access to jobs, education and training for thousands of young people.
The submission also highlighted our understanding of the economic potential of infrastructure, and the role we have played in supporting the delivery of Cambridge South Station, a gateway to one of Europe’s leading innovation districts. As well as the Peterborough Station Quarter development, a transformative regeneration programme that puts transport at the centre of a new mixed-use urban district.
This adds to a growing list of national recognitions for the Combined Authority’s transport work. The Broad Street Road Transformation Project, delivered in partnership with local councils, has also been shortlisted in the ‘Exemplary Approach to Active Travel & Public Space’ category at the National Transport Awards. The Combined Authority was also recognised at the 2025 Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards in June, being shortlisted for ‘Most Improved Council’ and ‘Campaign of the Year’ for the Tiger Pass. Additionally, the Broad Street scheme was highly commended in the ‘Creating Better Places’ category at the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation Awards 2025 in June, with the Tiger Pass also being commended for ‘Bus Initiative of the Year.’
Paul Bristow, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, said:
‘This shortlisting shows that the incredible efforts made by our transport team are being recognised nationally. It’s a moment to celebrate, but also a reminder to keep up the momentum. Through our work towards bus franchising and our ambition to bring light rail to the region, we are setting the foundations for change. We will continue working to deliver a better transport network for all residents in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.’
Winners will be announced at the 22nd annual National Transport Awards ceremony on 2nd October 2025.
