£330,000 Funding Boost to Support Jobs and Skills in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough’s Heritage and Tourism Sector 

The Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (Combined Authority) has added £330,000 in additional funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to create and safeguard jobs in the region’s Heritage and Tourism sector. 

The investment will expand the Combined Authority’s successful ‘New Hire’ paid internship programme for adults aged 22 and over, giving local residents the chance to gain valuable work experience while helping businesses grow their teams at no extra cost. 

Through the new funding, employers in the Heritage and Tourism sector can now access: 

• 6 weeks of fully funded salary support, based on the National Living Wage 

• An additional £100 weekly subsidy to support onboarding and other costs 

• Flexible working hours between 12 and 38 hours per week 

The initiative aims to create and safeguard jobs directly related to heritage, tourism and associated industries — supporting both the region’s economy and its cultural assets. 

Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Paul Bristow, said: “Our heritage and tourism sector is a vital part of our local identity and economy. This funding will help support local businesses to bring in new talent, open up opportunities for people of all ages, and ensure this important sector continues to thrive.” 

The Combined Authority’s Employment and Skills Team works with organisations of all sizes to help them recruit, retain and develop staff. Alongside the new UKSPF-funded internships, a range of other initiatives are available to employers, including: 

• Youth Guarantee Trailblazer internships for 18–21-year-olds 

• Apprenticeship Age Grants for 16–18-year-olds 

• Higher Technical Qualification (HTQ) grants for training young employees
