Greater Cambridge development corporation consultation: Mayor Paul Bristow statement
Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Paul Bristow has given his reaction to the launch today of a consultation for a development corporation in Greater Cambridge.
Paul Bristow said: “Greater Cambridge is one of the world’s strongest and fastest-growing economies but that isn’t an accident, and it isn’t guaranteed.
“My message to government has long been that we’re ready to deliver but Ministers must match our ambition.
“Our Local Growth Plan is intentionally the most ambitious in the country, and delivering it means tackling infrastructure constraints we’ve put off for too long.
“That is why I welcome the £400 million of government funding already committed to accelerate development in the area, and it’s encouraging to see Government now consulting on a Greater Cambridge development corporation.
“If a development corporation can speed up delivery of the Local Growth Plan, and make Cambridgeshire and Peterborough healthier, wealthier and happier as a result, it deserves serious consideration.
“I’ll be engaging fully with the consultation and encourage others to do the same. If taken forward, the Combined Authority will work closely with a development corporation to support delivery at pace.”
