Mayor visits Melbourn’s Science Parks to see how funding is helping to support innovation
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mayor Dr Nik Johnson visited TTP’s new home, TTP Campus in Melbourn on 30 January with Business Board member Andy Williams, to tour the facilities and view the impact of funding given by the Combined Authority’s Business Board in 2020.
TTP are a consultancy that collaborates with businesses across various high-tech industries, including deep tech, clean energy, medical devices, space technology, and life sciences. The company received £2.3 million of Local Growth Funding from the Combined Authority, as part of an overall project costing £55 million to develop TTP Campus and provide a Life Science Incubator on the adjoining Melbourn Science Park, which is now operated by Bruntwood SciTech, the UK’s largest property provider dedicated to the growth of science, technology and innovation sectors.
With TTP Campus now operational, this funding is helping TTP and Bruntwood SciTech establish further state-of-the-art facilities, including specialist labs and office space, addressing the challenges faced by start-up life science companies. The project has already enabled the launch of viable life science companies that previously struggled with the costs of specialist equipment and facilities, helping to accelerate innovation and contributing to the local economy.
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Mayor Dr Nik Johnson said:
“Innovation is the driving force behind a thriving economy, seeing the work happening here in Melbourn reinforces just how important these facilities are for supporting start-ups and advancing cutting-edge research. I am proud to be Mayor of a region where life sciences play such a key role in our future growth and success.”
Member of the Business Board, Andy Williams said:
“TTP Campus and the new Life Science Incubator on Melbourn Science Park are brilliant examples of how investment in innovation strengthens our economy. Seeing businesses collaborate in a space like this proves just how vital these hubs are for the success of our region.”
TTP Campus Director, James McCrone said:
“Local Growth Funding from the Combined Authority has already enabled the world-class TTP Campus, supporting cutting-edge science and technology development. Our partnership with Bruntwood SciTech is delivering further investment and growth through the Life Science Incubator on Melbourn Science Park.”
