The notorious rail bottleneck at Ely is at last subject of improvement proposals following hard lobbying by the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough James Palmer, and many concerned MPs, including Steve Barclay, Paul Bristow, and Liz Truss.
Following regular discussions and lobbying from Mayor James Palmer and the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority, Network Rail has announced it will begin the first phase of public consultation for proposals to upgrade the railway in and around Ely on 21 September.
Transport ministers have been warned by Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough James Palmer to rethink the decision to let improving North Ely junction slip down the Government’s priorities – or risk setting back work on several major infrastructure projects in the region.
