An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Legal Services and governance team at the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.

The Authority was established in March 2017 as a result of powers being devolved to it by Central Government most particularly in regard to securing major developments and improvements in respect of Transport, Housing, Education and Skills across the region with a vision to make Cambridgeshire and Peterborough the leading place in the world to learn, live and work.

Job Summary

To support the Legal Services function in providing advisory and support services across the range of its activities and projects, with a focus on support to the companies owned, and participated-in by the Combined Authority.

Applications are encouraged from candidates without direct experience but with a demonstrable interest and commitment to development in the relevant work areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting management systems, processes, and structures in line with corporate policies
  • Ensuring the quality and timeliness of Legal support and advice
  • Advising on the Authority's Constitution and Local Government Law and procedure
  • Carrying a caseload with supervision and support 
  • Providing legal advice to officers and members within the Authority, and its companies
  • Drafting and negotiating documents 
  • Providing support to the Chief Legal Officer / MO, and Lawyers as required
  • Work on high-profile and complex ,matters with support and supervision
  • To be responsible for your own health and safety

  • An understanding an appreciation of the roles of Members and the Officer / Member working relationship
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and sustain relationships with a variety of people both within and external to the organisation
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Candidates should possess the ability to make an effective presentation
  • Good IT skills
  • The ability to respond to changes in the working environment and be able to deal effectively with work pressures when they arise

Qualifications and Knowledge

  • This post is open to candidate of all abilities and exceptional candidates without experience will be considered on a development basis 
  • Candidates will be educated to a minimum of A level standard, with a legal qualification being preferred but not essential
