Cambridgeshire & Peterborough partners have come together to support former Thomas Cook employees

Since the announcement on 23 September that Thomas Cook has entered compulsory liquidation, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority partners have been working together to provide support for former employees. An estimated 1,200 people across Cambridgeshire are affected, including those at the Thomas Cook HQ in Peterborough.

The Insolvency Service

If you work for Thomas Cook and have been told that you are being made redundant, The Insolvency Service has advice about claiming money you’re owed and information about where you can seek support.

The Insolvency Service website provides further detail about how to apply and how your claim will be paid.

Jobcentre Plus Rapid Response Service

The government’s Jobcentre Plus Rapid Response Service stands ready to help people find a new job as soon as possible by offering tailored support.

Taskforces

The government also intends to convene a cross-government taskforce to support employees, alongside local stakeholders. The taskforce will consider existing support schemes and will also monitor the impact on local businesses.

The Secretary of State for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy is establishing a cross-government Task Force to address the impact on employees and local communities. This will help to overcome barriers to attending training, securing a job or self-employment, such as proving child care costs, tools, work clothes, travel costs.

Cambridgeshire Libraries have a range of services to support career changes and new jobs including:

  • volunteering
  • careers in childcare, schools and social care
  • adult learning, skills and careers guidance

Skills Support for the Workforce in Greater Cambridge and Greater Peterborough

Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) is a programme developed to upskill employees within small and medium-sized businesses in Greater Cambridge and Greater Peterborough.

SSW is co-financed by the Education and Skills Funding Agency and the European Social Fund.
