Combined Authority celebrates first ever Staff Awards

On 24 June over 100 staff members from the Combined Authority headed to St Neots Football Club to attend the inaugural staff awards.

Known as The CIVILS, the awards recognised the outstanding work done by staff over the last twelve months, with a particular focus on those who have clearly embodied the Combined Authority’s CIVIL values and behaviour framework.

After receiving almost 100 nominations across the categories, a panel of cross directorate employees undertook the first round of shortlisting before final recommendations were submitted to the corporate management team. The ten award categories and the subsequent winners were:

  • Collaboration Award – Caroline Fairhurst, UoP Project Support
  • Innovation Award – Edward Colman, Head of Communications, Engagement and Public Affairs
  • Vision Award – Steve Walker, Operations Manager – Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Careers Hub
  • Integrity Award – Tim Bellamy, Assistant Director, Transport
  • Leadership Award – Emma White, Acting Strategic Transport and Planning Manager
  • Pride of the CPCA Award – Rob Emery, Assistant Director, Finance
  • Commitment to the Mayoral Pledges Award – Yo Higton, Active Travel Lead
  • Unsung Hero Award – Callum Boddington, Democratic Services Assistant, Jackie Cockrill, Personal Assistant, Stephanie Prior, Executive Support Manager, Lauren Whitehead, HR Administrator
  • Team of the Year Award – UKSPF (Skills Team)
  • Chief Executive’s Excellence Award – UKREiiF Team

Winners were each awarded a trophy, and winners and nominees were each given a digital certificate and a social card to share their experience of the awards on their social media profiles.

Speaking after the event, Nicky McLoughlin, Assistant Director, HR said “I was absolutely delighted to be part of our very first CIVILS employee awards event. It is really important to me that we take the time to recognise and reward staff for the incredibly hard work that is happening across our organisation. We received over 90 nominations as part of the process and were able to crown our winners in 10 different categories. More importantly though, this was a chance for us to say thank you to all staff for their continued support and dedication to the organisation. It was great to see so many colleagues connecting, collaborating and above all, having a lovely time! The HR team did an amazing job in organising this fabulous event and I couldn’t be prouder of them.”

Chief Executive Rob Bridge echoed Nicky’s thoughts, saying ““In the year that I’ve been at the Combined Authority I have witnessed the continued improvement of our culture, the improvement of how we’re doing things and the improvement of how we’re working together. And that’s why it was so wonderful to have the opportunity to recognise and celebrate the outstanding work done by our staff during the last year by holding these awards, which were based around our CIVIL values. I’d like to thank everyone who nominated and congratulate not only our winners, but also those who were nominated. The breadth of individuals and teams who were recognised shows just how much hard work has been done across the organisation, and I look to celebrating again next year.”
