Inspiring the Next Generation of Manufacturing Talent
National Manufacturing Week, taking place on 26th September, is set to bring together local government and manufacturers to showcase the wealth of career opportunities within the manufacturing sector for residents.
The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority is actively collaborating with local employers and schools to promote National Manufacturing Day, showcasing the skills essential for driving growth and highlighting the diverse career opportunities within this thriving sector.
Although women make up nearly half of the UK workforce, they represent just 26% of workers in manufacturing. The Combined Authority will be encouraging young people, especially young women, to consider the diverse and rewarding careers available in manufacturing.
Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, commented ahead of industry focus event: ” Manufacturing remains one of the key drivers of prosperity in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, supporting our economic growth and offering high-skilled, high-wage jobs. National Manufacturing Day is a fantastic opportunity to shine a light on an industry that is crucial to the success of our region.
Katy Davies, member of the Combined Authority Business Board and manufacturing industry expert, shared her thoughts ahead of National Manufacturing Day regarding exciting sector opportunities “Manufacturing offers incredible career and training opportunities, especially for women. We want to inspire the next generation to explore this exciting field, where the potential for innovation and development is immense. Whether it’s working with cutting-edge technologies like 3D printing, robotics, or advanced materials, women can play a huge role in shaping the future of this sector.”
Throughout National Manufacturing Day, businesses will be connecting with young people and schools interested in finding out more about local manufacturers, training opportunities and careers in the sector. By organizing workshops, site visits, and career talks nationwide, the event aims to highlight the in-demand skills that students can develop to build successful careers.
