Statement from the Mayor and Deputy Mayor Congratulating Local Olympians
We are immensely proud to congratulate our Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Olympians for their remarkable achievements at the Paris Olympics. Their dedication and performances have brought honour to our entire region.
The Olympics symbolise the unity of nations and the celebration of excellence, and our athletes have truly embodied these ideals on the world stage.
Special recognition goes to Jake Jarman from Peterborough, who, at just 22, won a bronze medal in gymnastics, inspiring a new generation with his exceptional talent and perseverance. Equally rousing was the performance of Imogen Grant from Cambridge, who secured gold in the women’s lightweight double sculls. She continues to inspire us all as she embarks on her medical career, exemplifying dedication both on and off the water. Finally, congratulations to all our University of Cambridge alum. Whether they were competing for Team GB and other national teams, we’re proud of all your achievements.
We eagerly anticipate the upcoming Paralympics. We are confident our Paralympians, including Peterborough born Lauren Steadman, attending her fifth Games and Cambridgeshire’s world class athlete Jonnie Peacock, will continue to inspire us with their remarkable skills and strength.
We celebrate the accomplishments of everyone who calls, or has called, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough home. Whether that’s Cambridge-born swimmer, Angharad Evans, or the many students competing for Team GB or other national teams. Our community thrives when we come together to celebrate these successes. Let’s continue to support our athletes, who represent the very best of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
