Successful Climate Summit Unites Stakeholders for a Greener Future

The Maltings in Ely was the vibrant backdrop for the recent Climate Summit, aptly titled “Sustainable Solutions – Uniting for a Greener Future,” hosted by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Climate Partnership. Attended by approximately 100 individuals, the event proved to be a pivotal moment for fostering collective understanding and commitment toward a more sustainable future.

The summit, held on 9th November, featured a lineup of expert speakers who delved into critical topics aimed at addressing the pressing challenges faced by the region. The discussions ranged from “Adapting for the Future Fens” to “Domestic Retrofitting,” “Electric Vehicles: Preparing the Road Ahead,” and “Feeding the Future: Sustainable Food Production.”

One of the highlights of the event was a heartfelt letter from the region’s youth, emphasising concerns about public transportation and its impact on their ability to make environmentally conscious decisions.

Reflecting on the success of the summit, the Mayor Dr Nik Johnson expressed enthusiasm about the collective effort to understand the monumental task at hand. “The Climate Summit was a resounding success in bringing together diverse stakeholders who share a common goal – creating a sustainable and eco-friendly future for our region. It highlighted the crucial work being carried out by the Combined Authority and demonstrated the potential for even greater achievements when we work together. This event marks a significant step forward in our journey toward a greener and more resilient community.”

Bridget Smith, Leader of the South Cambridgeshire District Council and Lead Member for Environment and Climate Change for the Combined Authority commended the Combined Authority’s dedication to change and collaborative problem-solving. “The Climate Summit was a testament to the Combined Authority’s unwavering commitment to change and finding sustainable solutions. It was inspiring to know stakeholders from various sectors came together, demonstrating a shared dedication to overcoming challenges and working collaboratively for the betterment of our environment. This event underscores our collective responsibility and the positive impact that can be achieved through joint efforts.”
