Tiger On Demand reaches 50,000 passenger journeys as service expands into new areas of South Cambridgeshire

Tiger On Demand has reached a major milestone of 50,000 passenger journeys, as the flexible transport service prepares to expand into 13 additional South Cambridgeshire villages from Monday 13 July.
Since launching in 2024, Tiger on Demand has provided more than 50,000 passenger journeys across West Huntingdonshire, Fenland, East Cambridgeshire and South Cambridgeshire, demonstrating growing demand for flexible demand-responsive transport and helping connect residents to work, education and leisure.
Building on that success, the service will expand from 13 July to include Harlton, Hauxton, Harston, Haslingfield, Barrington, South Trumpington (Park & Ride), Great Shelford, Little Shelford, Whittlesford, Foxton, Newton, Shepreth and Stapleford giving more residents access to flexible, affordable public transport.
The expansion will also replace the existing 32 service, offering passengers a more flexible way to travel. Instead of relying on fixed routes and timetables, residents will be able to book journeys between virtual bus stops across the service area when they need to travel.
The expansion funding was made possible due to Developer funding secured by South Cambridgeshire District Council.
Bookings for the expanded zone open on 11 July, allowing residents to reservice journeys up to 48 hours in advance of the service launching 13 July.
Journeys can be booked through the Tiger on Demand app, online at www.tigerondemand.co.uk, or by calling 01480 595440 (lines open Monday to Saturday, 6am–7:30pm)
Affordable fares include:
- Adults: £2.50 per journey
- Children aged 5–16: £1 per journey
- Under 5s: Free
- Concessionary and disability bus pass holders: Free
- Tiger Pass holders: £1 per journey
Mayor Paul Bristow said:
“Reaching 50,000 passenger journeys is a fantastic milestone and shows that residents value flexible public transport that fits around their lives.
Tiger on Demand is helping people access work, education, healthcare and leisure while making better use of our transport network. By expanding the service into more South Cambridgeshire communities, we’re giving even more residents access to affordable, flexible transport and improving connections across our region.
“This is another important step in our ambition to get Cambridgeshire and Peterborough moving.”
Cllr Dr Lisa Redrup, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s Lead Cabinet Member for Healthy Communities, said:
“We’re thrilled that developer funding secured by the Council, and collaboration with the Combined Authority, has helped make this expansion possible. Reliable, affordable transport makes a real difference to everyday life – whether that’s getting to work, attending appointments, visiting friends and family, or reaching local shops and services. As demonstrated by the numbers of people already using it – Tiger on Demand offers a flexible and convenient way to travel, with journeys that fit around people’s lives rather than a fixed timetable. I’d encourage residents to give it a try and see how it can help them stay connected to the people and places that matter most.”
Sam Hunt, General Manager of WeMove, said:
“Hitting 50,000 journeys shows just how much appetite there is for demand-responsive travel once people give it a try. WeMove is proud to be delivering a service which has grown from a new idea into something residents genuinely rely on, and that’s down to a real team effort with CPCA. We can’t wait to bring that same experience to 13 more villages this month, welcome many new passengers on board, and see what the next 50,000 journeys look like.”
