We are ready to go – Combined Authority Mayor tells PM
In response to the Prime Minister’s speech on rebuilding Britain, Mayor James Palmer tells Boris Johnson that there is no better region to realise this opportunity than Cambridgeshire & Peterborough.
James Palmer, Mayor of Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority:
“We are ready to go – the Combined Authority is in delivery mode and we have radical projects that together form a programme for building on, levelling up, and driving forward our local economy. Our programme is an opportunity to support and grow business, jobs, housing, infrastructure, roads and rail across the Fens, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.
“We have shown that through a Combined Authority we can challenge the status quo to deliver better and faster, while demonstrating the absolute best in innovation and environmental practice.
“I am challenging delivery times on major infrastructure projects such as the A47; forcing the pace on re-opening a long-awaited station at Soham; creating genuinely affordable home ownership through our £100k Homes scheme; driving for a world-class, technologically-advanced, zero carbon metro – the Cambridgeshire Autonomous Metro; investing in education and skills with a new University in Peterborough and providing support to business and skills through our Business Board service.
“Cambridgeshire is both a microcosm of and central to the wider UK economy. These projects we are delivering are the best opportunity to level up left-behind towns and stimulate national economic growth as we come out of the Covid-19 crisis. The Mayoral Combined Authority will continue to supercharge the Cambridgeshire economy and highlight why Cambridgeshire is a great place for investment, a great place to live, work and do business. We are ready and we are delivering.”
