Combined Authority and Eastern Community join forces to drive community-led housing across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority is pleased to announce their plan to work with Eastern Community Homes to drive forward their commitment to support community-led housing projects across the region following the proposal’s approval at its Housing and Communities Committee meeting today (10 January 2022). 

For a number of years now, community-led housing has been identified as a way of providing affordable homes right at the heart of the local community.  

Over the next 15 months, Eastern Community Homes will work with 13 known community-led housing groups across the Combined Authority’s region of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough to identify and devise a plan of action to support the completion of their projects where needed. 

Eastern Community Homes will also look to promote community-led housing as a concept to potential new communities and provide advice to groups on how to progress their community homes project, including signposting groups to relevant technical advice and assist in access to funding to support their project which includes the application for a £5,000 grant from the Combined Authority to help set up their own community groups.  

Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough said: “Providing funding to give people an opportunity to find an affordable home in Peterborough and across Cambridgeshire is something that the Combined Authority was set up to do.  

“It’s important to be able to give people the security of having a good quality home in the communities that they live and work in, and so I’m delighted that we now have the opportunity to work with Eastern Community Homes to help drive forward our community-led housing initiative.”

We look forward to helping more local groups deliver community-led design and build housing projects.”
