Mayor Paul Bristow statement on technical skills for 14-year-olds

Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Paul Bristow has given the following statement after government news today of changes to the education system that will see 14-year-olds get early access to technical education, skills training and work experience.

Paul Bristow said: “This is a welcome direction of travel.

“Young people deserve clearer pathways into high-skilled jobs through technical education and vocational training. We are ready to build on what we’re already doing to improve access to further education and boost apprenticeships, internships and work experience.

“Our refreshed Local Skills Improvement Plan, with the Cambridgeshire Chamber of Commerce, is already bringing employers, colleges and young people together around what our economy actually needs and building the pipeline of talent to grow it.

“Strategic Authorities like ours are best placed to lead on this, driving and joining up our skills system. I look forward to discussing with Government the devolved powers and resources we need to deliver for our young people.”
