Mayor James Palmer calls for Combined Authority oversight over new rail franchise contracts amid frustration at Fenland services improvement bid

Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough James Palmer is calling on Government to allow the Combined Authority to have sign-off rights in the awarding of any new rail franchises covering the area. The Mayor's call comes after being continually frustrated in attempts to bring forward a package of improvement to rail services at Fenland stations.Mayor Palmer is writing to the Government's Rail Minister Andrew Jones MP to set up a meeting including train operator CrossCountry and Network Rail, as part of continuing attempts to secure a breakthrough in delivering better services to Fenland stations at Manea, March and Whittlesey.The Mayor has long been pushing for CrossCountry's Stansted to Birmingham service, which runs trains between Peterborough, Fenland and Cambridge, and on to Stansted, to be expanded to give people in Fenland greater opportunity to access jobs in Cambridge and London via rail.

Mayor James Palmer sees first-hand new shared ownership housing scheme unlocked by Combined Authority in Melbourn

Mayor James Palmer today (Friday 14th) visited new homes in Melbourn, South Cambridgeshire, which were unlocked through the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority's £100 million Affordable Housing Fund.The eight homes are part of a new phase at Victoria Heights being built by local company Granary Developments.

A series of consultation events have been announced across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough for members of the public to have their say on the future of the area's transport network to 2050. The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority's Local Transport Plan (LTP) will set out an ambitious, challenging and exciting strategy for a world-class, integrated transport network, which addresses current and anticipated future pressures on infrastructure, while also supporting housing and economic growth.

Combined Authority grant funding success for Medesham Homes

Medesham Homes, an equal Joint Venture between partners Cross Keys Homes and Peterborough City Council, has been successful in its bid for grant funding from Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority to help build desperately needed affordable homes in Peterborough.As part of the Combined Authority's commitment to seek to accelerate the delivery of affordable housing, Medesham Homes has been successful in its bid for £735,000 for their Belle Vue development in Stanground which will see 30 new homes completed this year.Clair Higgins, Chief Executive of Cross Keys Homes and a Board Member of Medesham Homes said: "Building new affordable homes for the city is a priority of ours, so to receive this funding which will help to accelerate a sustain even more new homes for affordable rent and meeting local need, is fantastic news."Medesham Homes' Board Member, Howard Bright, added: "We are determined to make a positive difference by building as many new affordable homes as we can.

Public set to have their say on strategy to shape Cambridgeshire and Peterborough's transport future

Members of the public are set to be given the opportunity to help share a strategy to tackle transport challenges and support ambitions for growth in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough over the next 30 years.The Combined Authority's Local Transport Plan (LTP) will provide the policy foundation and strategic context for key projects like the CAM Metro, Wisbech, Soham and Cambridge South rail station proposals, the dualling of the A47 and A10 and the ongoing work to reform the bus network.The Combined Authority Board will be recommended to approve a widespread community and stakeholder consultation on the LTP, which would see half-day events held across the whole area to which the public would be encouraged to attend.

Cllr John Holdich praises impact of Combined Authority as he is made Deputy Mayor

Peterborough City Council leader Cllr John Holdich has been appointed Deputy Mayor of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority by Mayor James Palmer. Cllr Holdich is  now the statutory Deputy Mayor, taking over from Cllr Charles Roberts, who previously held the post.Cllr Holdich was first elected to Peterborough City Council 40 years ago in 1979, said he is delighted to be able to support Mayor James Palmer as his deputy, and continue to drive forward the key priorities of the Combined Authority.Cllr John Holdich said: "My focus will be on supporting the Mayor with the continues progress of transformational schemes such as the University of Peterborough, the CAM Metro, dualling the A10 and A47, new rail station in Wisbech, Soham and Cambridgeshire and increased housing delivery."In Peterborough we remain on course to welcome the first 2,000 students to the new University 2022, we are investing in upgrading city centre infrastructure, and the A47 dualling will also offer significant benefits to the city."Devolution has made the accelerated delivery of such schemes possible.
